History
The Chausie comes from crosses between domestic cats and Felis chaus, the jungle cat of Asia and North Africa. It is a small breed with a short list of active catteries worldwide, which means finding one takes patience and usually a waiting list.
Living with one
Tall, lean and extremely active. Chausies are athletic even by hybrid standards and need vertical space and stimulation. Not a breed to leave alone in a flat all day.
What Chausies are screened for
HCM echo screening and PK-Def are the usual asks. Some early-generation Chausies have a documented tendency toward digestive sensitivity — ask the breeder directly what they feed and why.

What the F-number actually means
Chausies descend from the Jungle cat (Felis chaus). The generation counts how many steps removed a cat is from that ancestor — F1 is the first cross, and each number after it is one more generation of domestic breeding.
