History
The Ocicat is the useful counter-example on this site: it looks like a small spotted wild cat and it is entirely domestic. It was built from Abyssinian, Siamese and American Shorthair lines, reportedly beginning with an unplanned kitten in the 1960s. There is no serval, no leopard cat, and no F-number — if someone offers you an 'F2 Ocicat', that is a reason to walk away.
Living with one
Outgoing and people-oriented, with a lot of the Siamese temperament underneath the spots. Vocal, sociable and generally easy to live with.
What Ocicats are screened for
PKD (polycystic kidney disease) and PK-Def are the genetic tests to ask for; HCM echo screening applies as it does across pedigree cats.
