Later-generation hybrids — the F4, F5 and SBT cats almost every breeder sells as pets — are recognised as domestic cats and are generally legal to own in Nebraska. Early generations (F1 to F3) are a different matter and are restricted or prohibited in many places, sometimes by city rather than by state.
This is the part people get wrong
These rules apply to hybrid breeds — Bengals, Savannahs, Chausies and Cheetohs — because they descend from a wild species. They do not apply to Maine Coons, Ragdolls, Siberians, British Shorthairs, Persians, Sphynxes, Russian Blues, British Longhairs, Exotic Shorthairs, Toygers, Ocicats, Egyptian Maus, Serengetis and Highlanders, which are fully domestic breeds with no wild ancestry and no generation ladder.
